Alan Rubel is an associate professor in the Information School and director of the Center for Law, Society & Justice at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is also a member of the Department of Medical History & Bioethics and an affiliate of the UW Law School. He works in the areas of information ethics, law, and policy, including on questions about surveillance and privacy, information dissemination and transparency, and automated or algorithmic decision systems. He received is PhD in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and his JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Prior to joining the faculty at UW, he was a Greenwall Fellow in Bioethics and Health Policy at Johns Hopkins and Georgetown universities and a law clerk to Justice Ann Walsh Bradley of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
